Remember Tomorrow: Metallica vs. Opeth.

Ok, Ok. We’ve been on Metallica’s nuts lately. For no good reason really. They’re just really big and swing hard. Anyway, we can’t ignore the former thrash titans covering Iron Maiden’s “Remember Tomorrow” as commissioned by UK rag Kerrang!

Nor can we, in good inverted faith, ignore comparing it to Opeth’s version from the Dwell Records Iron Maiden tribute.

So, which version is better? Metallica or Opeth?

    Opeth EASILY…Hetfield cant sing

  2. adam Says:

the metallica cover is good enough, but the opeth cover is way better, as MBR says, because Akerfeldt can effing sing.

I’d place the anthrax version between the two, though: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-Eum4ySdUzg

  3. madmooney Says:

    Definitely Opeth.

  4. Eric Hanson Says:

Metallica - they made it their own song. That said, I’m not sure the comparison is particularly fair. How old is that Opeth cover?

  5. chuck bb Says:

Yeah… Opeth… But Metallica’s version is a valiant effort - Hetfield just can’t hit the real notes and just goes into his mouth full of fries vocal style.

  6. paul Brabo Says:

I like the version by CrowBar better…..check it out. Seems darker

  7. Naco Libre Says:

I agree, I like CrowBar better

  8. Luke Says:

Opeth hands down. Metallica’s attempt to “make it their own” was sub par. The Anthrax version wasn’t bad though.

  9. Jerome Says:

Mmm, the Crowbar version has been my favorite for years.

  10. steve Says:

    Agreed.

Opeth is better, mostly because of the vocals. Its from round 98-2000.

but the Crowbar cover is the best, of all. never liked Anthrax.

I think Crowbar also did the best No Quarter cover, though there’s likely tons out there I’ve not heard.

  11. Eric Says:

OPETH!!! Is Metallica even still around? I thought they broke up in 1991. ;P

  12. The Metal Nerd Says:

No. They died after …And Justice For All. Every album after has been recorded by goverment grown clones.

  13. Brad Says:

Alright, I listened to all four covers (though I’d heard the Metallica and Opeth ones already), and I’d rank them like this: Crowbar, Opeth, Anthrax, Metallica.

But actually, I’d rank the Maiden original above them all. One of the best Paul-era songs.

  14. PCPTORPEDO Says:

I think metallica is sounding better than I’ve heard them in a while.

  15. old man on range Says:

Fuck, Åkerfeldt sounds like a whiny bitch. Can’t listen to this band.

  16. Mal Says:

    Crowbar > Metallica

C’mon, the real reason you Decibelists have been heavy on the Metallica recently is all the lush drinking sessions you’ve been having with their PRs

  17. catsaremetal Says:

James needs to drop the whole singing like a redneck thing already.

  18. D Says:

    Opeth, hands down. Love Mikey.
I keep pullin for ‘tallica in the back of my mind, but I think, their era is behind us, by far..

  19. Opethian Says:

    Metallica sucks. Opeth obviously rulz.

  20. Alex Says:

Umm im gonna have to say Metallica>Opeth cause Akerfeldt sounds like an emo little girl half the song but Iron maiden version is the best… most the time Metallica and Iron maiden should be played by… Metallica and Iron Maiden… unless youve heard Children of Bodom’s One Cover

  21. Jauhien Sasnou Says:

    Opeth is boring.

  22. shaneO))) Says:

So is sex with you mother BA-ZING!

  23. adam Says:

damn, that crowbar version really lets the song stretch out. Crowbar’s no quarter cover is new on me, too. It’s good, although the Tool version is one of their few latter-day sins i really love.
